An essential step in winning the City West Cycle Link will be to prove the feasibility of the project. We know this as a fact from our meetings with State Government agencies.  The City West Cycle Link is being pitched on technical and economical merit and not just on a “feel good” factor.

On an in-principle agreement from the State Government to provide “matched funding”, the CWCL team is overseeing an effort  to encourage financial contributions from both local Councils and the public for a feasibility study of the City West Cycle Link proposal outlined on this website.

We’re aiming for a five-figure sum from Councils and four-figure sum from the public.  We believe that this will present irrefutable proof of grassroots support for the project.

Leichhardt Council has now committed $5,000, Ashfield Council $3,000 and the City of Sydney Council $3,000 to the cost of the feasibility study and we are now approaching other surrounding Councils which also stand to benefit from the City West Cycle Link for similar contributions.  It is these contributions – rather than only resolutions of in-principle support – by which the State Government will judge the support of local governments for this project.

So, we are taking the unusual and bold step to also appeal to you to make a contribution – however small – to the feasibility study.  We are confident that the public can see the benefit of this project, and we want to send a very clear signal to Government that the public wants this project.

All donations will be directed to the CWCL Feasibility Study and will not be used for any purpose other than funding the study.

Donations can be made via the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust.  Click on the “City West Cycle Link “Study Assessment” button.  Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The current total of donations from the public is:  $425 (as at 28July11)
